Southern Realm Festival
Boonah
Updated: Aug 13, 2026
Ready to step into a medieval fantasy world? Southern Realm Festival, sponsored by Scenic Rim Regional Council, The Drunken Farmhand and Valknut Meadery, is returning to Boonah on August 22–23, transforming the Boonah Showgrounds into a weekend of jousting, armoured combat, living history and fantasy.
Following the success of its 2025 event, the volunteer-led festival is expanding to two action-packed days, with three jousting performances each day from Nova Hollandia, plus horseback archery, historical swordsmanship, side-saddle displays, birds of prey, Jugger, live-action roleplay and spectacular armoured Buhurt combat.
Visitors can wander through living-history villages, meet re-enactors, explore historical camps and watch demonstrations including blacksmithing, slow stitching, painting and traditional crafts. Brisbane Swordcraft will also bring its immersive LARP world to life with characters, encampments and interactive battle displays.
There’s plenty for foodies and shoppers, too, with more than 90 market and food vendors serving up medieval-inspired fare, local produce and handcrafted wares. The festival Tavern will also be open from 10am–4pm each day overlooking the Buhurt Arena.
Families can enjoy tabletop gaming, Dungeons & Dragons, live performances and roving characters, while children aged nine and under enter free. Costumes are encouraged, but absolutely optional.
