Exploring Brisbane with Brisbane Metro

Updated: May 26, 2026

Brisbane is a city on the move - and now, getting around is easier than ever. Brisbane Metro is a game-changing, electric public transport service, connecting you to the people, places and experiences that make Brisbane special.

With turn-up-and-go services every five minutes on weekdays and 24-hours on weekends, there’s no need to plan your day around a timetable. Just arrive, get on, and enjoy a smooth ride. It’s no surprise Brisbane Metro has already clocked up millions of passenger trips, offering a more reliable and cost effective way to explore the city (especially with 50 cent fares making it easier than ever to leave the car at home).

But don't take our word for it, experience it yourself with these two Must-Do itineraries packed with some of Brisbane’s best experiences, activities, dining and more - all conveniently connected by the Brisbane Metro.

Itinerary 1: Arts, Culture & Play

Catch the Brisbane Metro M2 and spend the day exploring Brisbane’s best arts, culture and lifestyle spots - all seamlessly connected along one easy route.

Start: RBWH → Stop 1: Roma Street busway station

Kick things off by boarding a metro at RBWH before getting off at Roma Street station. Take the lift up to Roma Street Parkland to explore the 16 hectares of stunning subtropical gardens, then enjoy a picnic or breakfast/lunch at The Garden Room Cafe (a stunning light-filled cafe in the heart of the parklands).

Stop 2: King George Square

Get back on the M2 and head into the heart of the city. Head inside the iconic Brisbane City Hall, home to the much-loved Museum of Brisbane, take a free guided tour, climb the historic Clock Tower and soak up sweeping city views. While you’re exploring, don’t miss the recreated convict-era drystone wall at the corner of Adelaide and George streets uncovered during the metro tunnel construction - a fascinating piece of Brisbane’s history. From here, you’re just moments from Queen Street Mall, where you’ll find everything from retail therapy to casual dining.

Feeling snacky? Why not grab a flaky, buttery croissant from Lune Croissanterie in Burnett Lane. It's a cult-favourite spot for a reason and is ideal for a quick, indulgent treat on the go.

End: Cultural Centre

Get back on the M2 and glide through the city via the Adelaide Street tunnel — bypassing traffic and making the journey seamless.

Arrive at Brisbane’s premier cultural precinct and spend the afternoon exploring Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art or catching a show at Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Prefer something more relaxed? Stroll the riverfront, cool off at Streets Beach, explore Fish Lane or book a long lunch at one of South Brisbane's premier restaurants.

Our pick? Southside. Set beneath the South Brisbane railway bridge in Fish Lane, this lush, multi-level pan-Asian spot is serving vibrant share-style dishes in a buzzing, design-led setting.

Itinerary 2: Eat, Shop & Explore

Looking for a day that blends shopping, dining and local discovery? The M1 Metro line has you covered.

Start: Brisbane City or West End

Start your morning in the CBD or nearby West End - whether that’s a stroll through Queen Street Mall or café hopping along Boundary Street.

Our suggestion? Picnic Cafe, tucked inside West Village, serves up elevated café classics with a twist alongside top-notch coffee - the perfect way to kick off your day.

Once you’re ready, get on the M1 and enjoy a smooth, direct ride south.

Stop 1: Buranda Station

Get off at Buranda and take a short detour to explore Stones Corner - a local favourite known for its vintage stores, cafés and relaxed vibe.

From here, it’s also an easy walk to Hanlon Park, where you’ll find leafy walking tracks, shaded picnic spots and a peaceful creekside setting.

End: Westfield Mt Gravatt

Get back on the M1 and finish your day at one of Brisbane’s biggest shopping and lifestyle destinations.

Browse major retailers, catch a movie or settle in for a well-earned meal — from casual bites like Little Singapore to comforting bowls at Hakataya Ramen.

If you’re after a slower pace, wind down at Garden City Library - the perfect quiet escape after a full day out.
