ID It! Insects

Queensland Museum Kurilpa

Updated: Aug 13, 2026

Ever wondered what that tiny bug in your backyard actually is? Discover the fascinating world of Brisbane’s insects at Queensland Museum’s ID It! Insects on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Running for 2.5 hours from 1:30pm, this hands-on workshop is the perfect way to learn more about the insects living all around us and the important role they play in local ecosystems.

Led by specialists from the Queensland Museum Discovery Centre, the workshop will teach you how to identify common insect groups, recognise their key features and understand how insects contribute to healthy habitats.

You’ll also discover how you can become a citizen scientist yourself, including how to contribute observations to projects such as iNaturalist and help build valuable data for national research.

Whether you’re a curious beginner, a budding entomologist, a nature-loving family or simply someone who wants to know more about the creatures in their backyard, this workshop offers plenty of hands-on learning in a welcoming environment.

Part of Queensland Museum’s ID It! Citizen Science identification workshop series, the session is designed to build confidence in identifying local wildlife while showing participants how their discoveries can contribute to real scientific research.

The workshop is recommended for ages 12 and over, with children under 16 required to attend with an adult.
