Hitching Post Bar and Grill in Pullenvale is the kind of establishment every neighbourhood needs – a local bar and eatery offering top-notch fare along with craft beer, boutique wines, spirits and cocktails.

Inspired by its country setting and equestrian community, this local watering hole boasts a rustic industrial vibe with polished floors, high ceilings, and timber feature wall.

Saddle up to the bar for a craft beer - with four local brews on tap - and some bar snacks such as mixed house-spiced nuts, pork crackling chips and warm pretzels.

Plates designed for grazing or sharing include fried calamari and crispy jalapenos with roasted chilli dip, pulled pork tacos, smoked beef brisket nachos, and chicken wings; from mildly spiced southern fried to buffalo hot sauce and reaper hot.

Stand-outs on the mains menu are the 200g Black Angus eye fillet, charcoal grilled spatchcock with red pepper salsa and pan-seared Tasmanian salmon with jalapeno and mandarin relish. Add a side dish of thick-cut chips, sweet potato fries, roasted potatoes, steamed green beans, seasonal salad or fried mac n cheese squares.

Otherwise, there’s juicy burgers like the highly-recommended HPBG wagyu beef burger with black jack cheese, crispy bacon and paprika mayo on toasted charcoal bun.

Hitching Post is child-friendly with a kids’ menu consisting of fish and chips, burgers and fries, calamari and salad, and spaghetti bolognaise.  Each kids meal comes with a free drink plus 2 scoops of vanilla bean ice-cream with sprinkles on top.

Delectable desserts for adults include almond panna cotta with butterscotch sauce, rich chocolate fondant with mixed berry coulis, and espresso semifreddo with fresh berries, candied walnuts and chocolate meringue.

Besides beer, on tap and bottled, Hitching Post provides a predominantly Australian wine list along with spirits and classic cocktails; from espresso martinis to margaritas and mint julips.
