Get ready for a wonderfully weird adventure as Betsy Balloon and the Very Great Terrible Flood brings a colourful, music-filled theatrical adventure to QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre from September 23–26.
Welcome to the island of Helium, where Betsy lives with her cheerful, money-mad family who own the local balloon factory. Life is looking up - quite literally - until the world suddenly turns against balloons and everything they know comes crashing down.
With their world popped, Betsy is sent to a faraway city to start a new life with her eccentric Uncle Hercules Snark, an inventor whose creations are usually more unfinished than finished.
But Snark’s city has problems of its own. It never stops raining, the streets are flooding and things are, quite literally, starting to sink.
As Betsy finds her feet in her strange new surroundings, she’s swept up in a colourful adventure filled with imagination, music, illustration and plenty of unexpected twists.
Presented by QPAC and Brisbane Festival and created by Wellington-based arts company Pirate & Queen, Betsy Balloon and the Very Great Terrible Flood is a rambunctious modern fable based on a story by acclaimed New Zealand poet Bill Manhire, brought to life with original music and playful illustrations.
Whether you’re looking for a fun family outing or a theatrical adventure that will spark little imaginations, Betsy’s topsy-turvy world is set to be one memorable ride.
