Updated: Jul 04, 2025
Tangalooma Island Resort is kicking off the whale watching season with a spectacular celebration, featuring a large-scale whale-inspired sand art installation crafted by renowned Queensland sand artist Owen Cavanagh.
Located along Tangalooma’s scenic beachfront, this impressive artwork marks the start of the 2025 whale watching season this weekend. Accompanying the installation are breathtaking drone footage and aerial shots captured by acclaimed videographer and drone pilot Geoff Aquino.
This season also introduces exciting new partnerships, including a collaboration with the University of Queensland for an ecotourism research project, and the global citizen science platform Happywhale. Guests are encouraged to participate in whale migration tracking and marine conservation efforts through these initiatives.
Departing daily from Brisbane, Tangalooma offers Queensland’s most accessible whale watching experiences, with the annual humpback migration providing thousands of awe-inspiring encounters from June to October.
