Queensland Ballet presents the Australian premiere of Hamlet, a bold and contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s epic drama at the Thomas Dixon Centre, from 19th June – 18th July.
Choreographed by Leo Mujić of the Croatian National Theatre, this two-act masterpiece transforms Shakespeare’s immortal characters into a powerful physical language.
Through the haunting sounds of Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky, Mujić harnesses the language of movement to convey both the external drama and Hamlet’s turbulent inner thoughts.
With original costume designs by Manuela Paladin Šabanović, Hamlet is a powerful reimagining of Shakespeare’s dark and sweeping tale.
When the Ghost of his murdered father rises, Prince Hamlet is pulled into a world of betrayal, obsession and impossible choice. A royal wedding masks a deadly secret. A love story shatters under the weight of madness. And as poison replaces trust, fate closes in on the Danish court. Fighting to regain his rightful place as King, Hamlet must grapple with demons both internal and external.
The Artistic Director Ivan Gil-Ortega said this production of Hamlet, will offer audiences a gripping new perspective of Shakespeare’s masterpiece.
“Dance makes the story immediate and visceral. The virtuosic dance-drama propels the audience into a world of betrayal and trickery, one where ghosts and humans collide."
