Cherry Blossoms in Brisbane
Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens
Updated: Dec 27, 2025
A stunning cloud of pink, the cherry blossom tree is in bloom in the tranquil Japanese Garden at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, and it's an absolute must-see before the season ends.
With the flowering window of the cherry tree quite short (just a few weeks, in fact), you won’t want to leave it too long to check out this annual pop of pink or you may miss out.
For those with green thumbs and who are horticulturally inclined, this stunning Millennium Cherry (Prunus ‘Yvonne Matthies’) is a hybrid of the Wild Cherry (P. avium) and the Formosan Cherry (P. campanulata). And, for those who are keen birdwatchers, you'll find plenty of delightful blue-face honeyeaters (Entomyzon cyanotis) flitting from branch to branch, getting their fill of nectar.
There are also a rainbow of azaleas and rhododendrums in full bloom that are looking quite the picture!
If you’ve got plenty of time, why not enjoy more of the 56-hectare green expanse and explore all the delights on offer in the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens precinct.
Take the kids on the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail, visit the Kitchen in the Garden, get hot and steamy in the Tropical Display Dome, maybe explore The Cacti and Bromeliad House, or keep the cherry theme going and reflect on the magic and skill of the miniature plants and displays in the nearby Bonsai House.
