The French Exit
Brisbane CBD
Updated: Mar 24, 2026
The French Exit is a charming Parisienne-style "bistrot" housed in a grand heritage-listed century old warehouse building on the corner of Mary and Edward Streets in Brisbane's CBD.
Here, on the ground floor of the landmark white building that was once home to Belgian Brussels Beer Cafe and the Buffalo Bar, French bistrot dining, classic flavours and genuine hospitality come together.
Diners can expect a bustling experience with close-set candlelit tables and lively communal dining energy in the 177m² high-ceilinged heritage dining room, where there is seating for up to 80 guests.
Featuring parquetry floors, dense butter-yellow gloss walls with dark timber cladding, soft tan leather banquettes and discreet half-height lace curtains, there is also a large imported bar with brass bar stools.
The kitchen is helmed by John-Paul Fiechtner in the Executive Role and Ryan Carlson as Head Chef, under the direction of Anyday’s Culinary Director Ben Williamson, with a menu of timeless dishes designed to honour the comfort and soul of French food while reimagining it in a contemporary fashion.
Expect to find amiliar French classics such as steak frites, duck à l’orange, escargot and ananas givré, all served with care, precision and creativity without fuss. Local and seasonal produce showcase the best of Brisbane’s growers, artisans, and producers with the finesse of French technique.
Grounded in the great wine regions of France, the beverage program reflects the same integrity and care as the menu. Led by The French Exit’s Head Sommelier, Gianluca Giardini (formerly of Biànca restaurant), the wine list features nearly 600 references, ranging from approachable by-the-glass selections and emerging appellations to rare, iconic labels that celebrate France’s finest viticultural achievements.
Complementing the wine offering, a comprehensive cocktail and spirits program, developed under Group Bar Manager Marco Nunes—highlights character-driven creations crafted with elegance and style. The selection also showcases specialist independent appellations and thoughtfully curated Australian wines, offering guests a broad landscape of discoveries.
