South Bank

Updated: Jul 15, 2026

South Bank will come alive in a dazzling display of colour, creativity and connection when the much-loved LUMINOUS Lantern Parade returns to South Bank Parklands on Friday, July 31.

Bringing together thousands of people from across Queensland, this free community event has become the state's largest welcoming celebration, transforming South Bank Parklands into a glowing sea of handcrafted lanterns, music and multicultural festivities.

What began in 2007 as a candlelight march supporting refugees and people seeking asylum has grown into one of Brisbane's most inspiring annual events, celebrating Queensland's rich cultural diversity while warmly welcoming those who now call our state home.
