Hairspray Arena Spectacular

That riotous, feel-good musical, Hairspray, gets its biggest production in the world from Harvest Rain with a 'big fat arena spectacular' at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, 8 - 10 April.

With a cast of thousands - well, over 950 - this production will break records with its absolute hugeness and ability to tickle your funny bone and get your toes tapping.

Hairspray Arena Spectacular

How's this for some of the talent on show? Simon Burke plays Edna Turnblad - the role that John Travolta nailed so adorably in the 2013 film; Christine Anu is Motormouth Maybelle; Tim Campbell (House Husbands) is Corny Collins; and Amanda Muggleton is Velma Von Tussle. In the starring role of Tracy Turnblad, we have Lauren McKenna. They'll be more than ably supported by 30 professionals and many many MANY amateur performers ranging from 9 to 21 years of age).

In case you've been hiding under a rock, the story of Hairspray is set in the early 1960s, where pleasantly plump Baltimore teenager, Tracy, wants to be one of the background dancers on a popular TV show while dealing with obstacles and racial segregation along the way.

Hairspray Arena Spectacular

Harvest Rain are making a habit of doing things BIG, with their 2014 arena production of CATS featuring over 800 performers setting a record for the largest production of the famous musical in the southern hemisphere. Now they're aiming for the whole world (cue wicked maniacal laughter).

Hairspray will be directed and choreographed by Callum Mansfield (Dirty Dancing, The King and I, Cats Arena Spectacular).
