The Farmyards
Old Government House
The Farmyards is the work of iconic Queensland artist William Robinson, whose namesake gallery is in the heritage setting of Old Government House.
Known for his unique expressionist style Australian landscapes and whimsical Archibald prize winning portraits, some of the painter's best loved works were these, from his farm series, which hail from the 1970s when he moved to the semi rural setting of Birkdale.
During that period his farmyard animals and family pets became his muses, from chickens, cows, ducks and goats to cats and dogs. Now they have come home to roost in the splendid gallery that was opened in 2009 to honour Robinson, one of Australia's greatest living artists.
