OceanXperience

Updated: Oct 08, 2026
Dive into the world’s least explored oceans without leaving Brisbane at OceanXperience, a new immersive exhibition landing at Queensland Museum Kurilpa from Friday 4 December 2026.
Based on the world-class OceanXplorer research vessel featured in National Geographic’s OceanXplorers series, this immersive experience will put you in the middle of a marine science mission, taking you from the ship’s high-tech control rooms to some of the most mysterious depths of the ocean.
Created by Flying Fish, OceanXperience brings the OceanXplorer to life through interactive technology, real expedition footage and hands-on challenges. You’ll step into Mission Control and direct deep-sea expeditions, chart a course from the Bridge and launch cutting-edge submersibles from the Sub Hangar.
There’s plenty to get hands-on with, too. In the Wet Lab, you can analyse marine specimens, while the Dry Lab lets you decode oceanic data and discover how scientists investigate keystone wildlife species and the planet’s least explored deep-sea environments.
The experience offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at what life is like aboard a modern research vessel, from the technology and teamwork involved in deep-sea exploration to the science helping us better understand the oceans.
