Christmas in Brisbane is about to get a whole lot more magical, with Queensland Ballet bringing the world premiere of Derek Deane's The Nutcracker to QPAC's Glasshouse Theatre from December 9–19.

But this isn't The Nutcracker you may have seen before.

Created by internationally acclaimed choreographer Derek Deane and acclaimed designer Lez Brotherston, this spectacular new production offers a fresh reimagining of the much-loved festive classic - complete with magical new characters, breathtaking sets, exquisite costumes and awe-inspiring visual effects.

And with more than 135 artists, designers, makers and visionaries from around the world involved in bringing the production to life, it's set to be a seriously impressive theatrical experience.

Set to Tchaikovsky's iconic score, The Nutcracker will whisk audiences into a fantastical world where dreams awaken and Christmas magic feels very real.

While fans can expect plenty of familiar faces and much-loved elements, this is a completely new production, making it a must-see even if you've experienced The Nutcracker before.

The production brings together an international creative team whose work spans major productions including Doctor Who, Gladiator, Dune and Broadway's Swan Lake.

The result is a lavish new take on one of the world's most famous ballets, created to captivate audiences of all ages.

Young ballet fans can get even closer to the magic through The Nutcracker Children's Workshops, offering little ones the chance to explore the world of the production themselves.
