Creole Soul Kitchen

Spring Hill

Creole Soul Kitchen is an authentic little slice of Louisiana found nestled on Spring Hill’s busy Boundary Street.

Here you’ll find Creole staples like po’boys, gumbo, salads and pizza straight out of New Orleans (and in coming weeks, pastas). The pizza and pasta are an Italian/Louisiana fusion, derived from the 200 year old Italian community of New Orleans. The cosy licensed eatery has a smattering of tables and chairs on the pavement and inside where diners can sit and enjoy their food with a cold beer or soft drink or take it away.

Creole Soul Kitchen’s extensive list of Po’ Boys features fillings such as Fried Oyster (cornmeal crusted oysters with lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickle), Waffle Fries and Gravy (Creole seasoning, gravy, mozzarella and provolone), Eggplant or Chicken Parmigiana (crumbed with red Creole sauces and provolone) and Roast Beef (braised beef with gravy, lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo. For those who like it hot (Cajun style), there’s bottles of Louisiana Pure Crystal Hot Sauce to accompany.

Gumbo here is delicious and the real deal – a hearty combo of chicken, andouille sausage (smoked and made from scratch the traditional way by the chef), okra, onion, green peppers and celery with crisp rice cake in the centre.

The cosy licensed eatery has a smattering of tables and chairs on the pavement and inside where diners can sit and enjoy their food with a cold beer or soft drink or take it away.

The pizzas are light and thin-crusted and toppings include The Nola (andouille sausage, red onion, crocodile sausage – in the US it’s alligator tail, chives and black olives), Bourbon Street (crumbled meatball, bacon, green onion, red onion and parmesan) and the King Creole (white creole sauce, prawns, crocodile sausage, green onion and tomato relish).

Creole Soul Kitchen is licensed, with a small array of craft, standard and international beers available – think Peroni, Stella Artois, XXXX and Little Creatures, as well as tap beers and wine.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
