Enjoy a trip back in time to the glory days of rail travel whilst feasting on three courses of local produce prepared with a French twist by the chef at Haig Rd Bistro in Auchenflower.
Upon arrival at 11am at the historic Swanbank Station, passengers are greeted with a glass of bubbly whilst waiting to board the beautifully restored dining carriages, hauled by a classic diesel locomotive, which departs at 11.30am.
The 3-course lunch menu includes a choice of 3 entrees - freshly shucked oysters, French onion soup with artisan bread and Gruyère cheese; chicken, leek & truffle terrine; 3 mains - tradionla Cassoule with confit duck; wild Qld barrumundi (oven baked in bag) with potato gratin, artichoke, courgette & lemon aioli; or pan seared gnocchi (forest mushroom, truffle oil & permsan cheese).
And for dessert there's a choice of chocolate mousse with pistachio cassoulet; cinnamon crème brûlée or cheese of the day with condiments. Note that menu items including food and drinks must be selected at time of booking.
The 8-kilometre train journey takes in a variery of scenery, including scrubby bushland, waterholes, glimpses of local wildlife and hobby farms, historic homes, horse paddocks and relics of the region's mining past.
Good to know - Due to the fixed seating arrangement of these railway carriages, tables are shared by two couples. Smart casual attire is recommended.
Need to know - Toilets available on board and at Swanbank Station. Arrive approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the stated departure time. Swanbank Station will be open from 10:50am.
