THIS EVENT IS NOW IN THE PAST. FOR MORE GREAT THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN AND AROUND BRISBANE, PLEASE HEAD TO OUR WHAT'S ON PAGE.Love is in the air this Valentine's Day weekend as Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents two special Portraits recitals, spotlighting QSO’s Principal Flute, Alison Mitchell (13 February), and Principal Harp, Emily Granger (14 February) at Queensland Conservatorium, South Bank.
QSO Chief Conductor Maestro Umberto Clerici said a real-life love story beat at the heart Portraits, which is a new series he has created to showcase the talent of QSO's musicians and connect them to the audience, not just musically, but through their stories and personalities.
Alison has created a hybrid symphony with single movements from her favourite repertoire by different composers, starting with Dvořák and passing through Schumann, Mendelssohn and Sibelius – a sort of travel-book of Alison’s musical life.
Emily’s program revolves around the theme of love, not only because it is being perfomed on Valentine’s Day but because it will be the world premiere of a new harp concerto written for her by her husband, Tristan Coelho.
