Boombana Mt Nebo

Walk

A few minute’s drive from Jollys Lookout, Boombana is a an off road picnic area (to the left when heading up the mountain) with picnic tables, amenities block and two very different walking tracks

1. The Pitta Circuit – 1.1km return (approx 40 mins)

Boombana

Ideal for families with younger children (not in strollers) and the fitness-challenged, the gently sloping one kilometre walk starts at the picnic tables past the car park and after a brief stint in a fragrant open eucalypt forest submerges into the dappled light of the cool damp rainforest.

Although mostly bush track, part of the walk is via boardwalk, winding past a spectacular mammoth fig tree several hundred years old and amongst groves of towering ghost gums and bush orchids.

2. Thylogale Walking Track – 8km return (approx 4 hrs)

Thylogale Walking Track

This circuit is ideally walked in Spring, when the native wisteria vines drop their miniature purple and white flowers onto the forest floor.

Starting at the Boombana picnic grounds the rough but not too taxing path cuts through a combination of eucalypt and dry vine-infested rainforest, with the halfway reward being the spectacular views from Jollys Lookout.

Non-rowdy walkers may be rewarded with sightings of the area’s prolific bird life, including the tiny white-browed scrub-hen with its Peter Ustinov style eyebrows.
