Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk

Wynnum

Updated: Oct 09, 2025

The Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk is a bewitching walk-upon-the-sea that meanders for 800m through a small section of the vast area of mangrove forest stretching all the way to the mouth of the Brisbane River via the Fisherman Islands.

Mangroves and decking at Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk

A vastly different experience depending on the tides being high or low, both are recommended. The former has a hushed still water ambience while the latter is a hive of activity with all the crab and sea creature life scampering amongst the mangrove roots below (a winner with children).

Benches and information plaques in the form of a story book trail are dotted throughout to get the full picture of mangrove life for both children and adults and the walk culminates at a bird hide. At one point there is a not-to-be-missed platform jutting out to sea with splendid water and bay views.

All in all the walk takes anything from half an hour to an hour or more, depending on the degree of loitering.
