The Causeway

Fortitude Valley

The Causeway is a funky brick laneway café, wine and cocktail bar attached to and part of Fortitude Valley Irish pub Finn McCools.

Entry is either through the back of Finn McCools, where the bar is tucked away with a cosy den of indoor seating, or via the antique lamp-lit laneway, where a coffee window welcomes visitors with an espresso machine and a plate of fresh baked muffins on the sill and the bar window is for drink (and food) orders.

The Causeway Fortitude Valley

The Causeway menu offers light and healthy breakfasts, lunches and tapas daily as well as a decent wine and cocktail list.

Pull up a seat at a laneway table and enjoy a breakfast of Spinach and Feta Scramble, Bircher Muesli, Haloumi Benedict, Speck and Mushroom Bruschetta or Breakfast Bagel with a cup of espresso, Irish coffee or loose leaf tea including (Irish) Barry’s Tea.

For lunch there’s choices such as Caesar Salad, Chicken Baguette or Pumpkin and Rocket Salad, while Tapas include a Mezze Platter, Rice Paper Rolls, Bread and Trio of Dips or Salt and Pepper Squid.

And considering The Causeway is attached to a pub, the wine list is a nice surprise, featuring French Champagne Jacquant and boutique wines from the best wine regions of Oz as well as a smattering from Italy, Spain, France and Argentina.

Cocktails range from the Irish-inspired  – Finns Dark and Stormy (Chambord, Sailor Jerry Rum, ginger beer and bitters) and the Irish Wolfhound (Jamesons select, pink grapefruit, ginger beer and agave syrup) to classics with a sweet modern twist  - Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, Toffee Apple Manhattan, French Vanilla Martini and Strawberry Caprioska.

They also come in jugs – think Black Raspberry Punch, Spiced Sangria or Pimms Jug.

There's also a selection of seasonal craft beers.

Nice to know – Takeaway coffees are also available from the coffee window.

*Opening times correct at time of publishing in May 2016.

Need to know - The laneway entrance to The Causeway is between Finn McCools and the TCB building.
