Underwood Park

Priestdale

Updated: Mar 08, 2025

This south side expanse of park and wetlands, Underwood Park has a multitude of attractions within its vast space.

The playground pushes well beyond the standard play stuff, with a bike monorail, flying fox and a hirdy girdy in the mix along with cubby houses, slides, swings, tunnels and climbing frames galore and it is well laid out so the older children don’t encroach on the younger ones.

Similarly the dog off leash areas - which are a short stroll from the playground, picnic shelters and barbecues - are divided into twin compounds, one for smaller dogs and an adjoining one for larger dogs.

In between are basketball courts that also serve as bike rinks and the whole get-up is beautified by a lotus-covered lagoon.

However the stand out miss-it-and-cry feature of Underwood Park is the ethereal wetland lake where the ghostly wood nymph Wilis from the ballet Giselle would be right at home. Linked to the activity park via a pathway, it has a boardwalk circuit which meanders throughout, with viewing decks and benches for contemplation
