Curator’s Pick: For the Love of It

Australian Cinematheque

Updated: Apr 28, 2026

GOMA’s Australian Cinematheque much loved Curator’s Pick program has returned for its third year - an intimate, monthly encounter with films that have captured the imagination, curiosity and hearts of the curatorial team, screening on the last Wednesday of each month.

Curators-Pick-Secrets-and-Lies

Running from January to December 2026, the program features 12 sessions per year, with each session introduced by the curator who selected the film, creating a unique opportunity for cinema‑lovers to engage directly with the ideas, memories and conversations that the film has sparked.

Curator's-Pick-Hallelujah-I'm-a-Bum

Curated by Amanda Slack‑Smith, Victoria Wareham, Rob Hughes and Rosie Hays, Curator’s Pick showcases films that sit outside the Cinémathèque’s larger director retrospectives and thematic programs, yet have lingered long after the credits rolled. From singular documentary portraits to piercing moral dramas and unforgettable blasts of genre cinema, the selection reflects the breadth and depth of the curators’ passion for film as an art form.

Films featured in the April–June program include Mike Leigh's Secrets & Lies (1996), Corey Yuen's 皇家女將 (She Shoots Straight) (1990) and Lewis Milestone's Hallelujah, I'm a Bum (1933).
