NOMAD

Fortitude Valley

Updated: Aug 31, 2026

Brisbane’s dining scene is about to welcome a major new arrival, with NOMAD Brisbane set to take over the much-loved former Gerard’s Bistro site at 15 James Street, Fortitude Valley.

Opening before Christmas, the new restaurant will mark the first Queensland venue for hospitality group edition Group and the third NOMAD location in Australia, joining its established Sydney and Melbourne restaurants.

Since first opening in Sydney in 2013, NOMAD has become known for its fire-led cooking, produce-driven dishes and relaxed, generous style of dining, with menus designed to be shared around the table. While Brisbane will share the same ethos, the new restaurant will have a distinctly local flavour.

Expect Queensland produce, big flavours and a lighter, fresher menu shaped by Brisbane’s climate and dining culture, all served within a bright and open space designed specifically for the city.

The new venue will also pay homage to the history of its James Street home. After 14 years as the home of Gerard’s, the site will be transformed into an entirely new restaurant while retaining elements of what came before, including its distinctive rammed earth walls.

Brisbane-based designer Jarod Webb, founder of J.AR Office, will lead the design, having also worked on the previous Gerard’s refit.

Behind the kitchen will be edition Group culinary director Michael Greenlaw, joined by NOMAD Melbourne head chef Jeremy Swann, while long-time Melbourne team member Robbie Pyke-Marcou relocates to Brisbane as venue manager. The drinks program will be overseen by group bar manager Felix Woods and group sommelier Steve Senturk.

More news on the menu, drinks, design and exact opening date are still to come so keep an eye out for more details coming soon!
