Champ Kitchen & Bar

South Bank

Updated: Aug 17, 2025

CHAMP KITCHEN & BAR HAS CLOSED.

Champ Kitchen and Bar is a slick open-sided bar eatery that invites anyone passing by to pull up a seat and watch the world pass by, no matter what the time of day. Inside the high-ceilinged airy space the décor is a stylish understated mix of rustic and industrial and furniture a mix of café chairs, arm chairs and couches, with a menu to match.

Breakfast features foodie's delights such as smokey baked beans with kaessler, fried egg and parmesan toast, three cheese sweet corn hash cakes with salsa verde and buttermilk pancakes with caramelized banana and creamed maple.

Lunch varies from the light – heirloom cherry tomato, herb, goat's cheese and watercress salad or crab apple salad and scallop ceviche to the full deal such as Kashmiri rack of lamb and dinner is a delicious ramped up version of lunch with extras like crunchy pork belly and butter poached shellfish or Wagyu skirt and braised oxtail.

In between meals and at any time of day the Market table is open for grazing with offerings such as salmon and egg quiche, focaccia or baked egg and chicken hot pot with innovative salads such as rabbit or beetroot.

On the bar list are a small but high quality range of imported and local beers, spirits, wines and champagne (about half on the list available by the glass) and a handful of summery cocktails – think Long Mojito with Ginger, Rum and Lychee or Peach Bellini. Other drink-wise there are fruit shakes, Merlo coffee and loose leaf teas to sip on.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
