Queensland-based artist Carlos Barrios is returning to Mitchell Fine Art in Fortitude Valley with his solo exhibition, ‘Heart Songs’, from February 10th to March 7th.

The exhibition brings together a collection of artworks spanning decades of Barrios’ practice that are a combination of his primal relationship to art-making. Expressed as his “heart’s songs”, the works characterise Barrios’ creative practice through invocations of love, soulfulness and melancholy.

‘Heart Songs’ Carlos-Barrios

Raised in El Salvador, Central America and the son of an archaeologist, Barrios was introduced to the art and artefacts of ancient cultures at a young age. This vital and transportive force felt when observing these artefacts and sites informs Barrios’ life-affirming outlooks, which are held strong despite witnessing atrocities during the decade-long Salvadoran civil war. Creating art is a reflexive and indispensable element of living itself for Barrios. Through a heartfelt display, Barrios hopes to share this transformative capacity of art and life.
