Gallery Walk

State Library of Queensland

Immerse yourself in art, culture and history with the State Library of Queensland's Gallery Walk, an onsite, self-guided tour that encourages visitors to explore the Library’s many gallery spaces, showcases, exhibitions and art works.

The Gallery Walk is a must do for locals and tourists alike, of all ages, with treasures around every corner, including the Library's two main gallery spaces, Phillip Bacon Heritage Gallery and slq Gallery, where you can explore fascinating exhibitions like Big Voices: Children’s Art Matters.

The self-guided tour is supported by building signage, as well as a flyer with map that can be collected from Level 1. Follow the map through the Library's various levels and discover what's on offer.

View rare and fine books in one of Australia’s largest publicly available collections of artists’ books, explore Aboriginal art and curated displays showcasing the diversity of First Nations people and cultures in Queensland, and immerse yourself in our state's fascinating history in the intimate Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery.

Meanwhile, the Library’s flagship slq Gallery presents curated exhibitions that link contemporary themes to Queensland's historic past; from colonisation to indigenous culture and country.

Art works worth checking out include Black Opium, a spectacular sculptural installation by Dr Fiona Foley; Kurilpa Country, a large-scale illuminated mural by Lilla Watson; and Paradigm, a work created for World Expo ’88 by acclaimed American sculptor Jon Barlow Hudson (on loan from Queensland Museum).
