Dayboro Tea House

Dayboro

DAYBORO TEA HOUSE CLOSED PERMANENTLY IN 2015.

Dayboro Tea House is situated in the heart of Dayboro country town, just a 45 minute drive from Brisbane. The building is thought to have been built in 1929 and has been home to several businesses including a baker's outlet, a chemist shop, a residence, a bookmaker and a coffee shop. The current owner, Nicole Day, has seized the opportunity to give this quaint building a new life and to fill a niche which will satisfy both local and visiting tea drinkers. Whilst there are several options for coffee drinkers in Dayboro, the tea house is unique, providing not only a wide range of teas but also great country hospitality and home cooking at its best.

With 60 varieties of tea to choose from, the hardest part of visiting here is deciding which tea to try.  Nicole knows her teas, having previously worked for Queenie's at Nundah, and is happy to help customers choose their brew. Fruit melanges, black, green, oolong, white and rooibos teas all await your selection. This is an opportunity to try something different - lotus tea (rose, jasmine and orange), a pina colada fruit melange (pineapple and coconut, hot or iced), or perhaps a pot of Arctic Fire (cool mint with blue cornflowers). Fresh and fluffy scones with jam and cream are the perfect accompaniment for that cuppa, and along with the lunchtime lasagne and toasted leg ham sandwiches are proving very popular. For those who must have coffee, a coffee machine is on standby.

Weekends are very busy and with every Monday being Parents' Day, the pace remains hectic even at the beginning of the week. Parents' Day sees the usual white tablecloths replaced with butcher's paper and crayons, toy boxes are set out and a TV appears - all in a bid to both occupy the littlies and give parents an opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea and a bite to eat.

Seating choices here include creek-side outdoor settings, upstairs where you can enjoy a street view or downstairs at a lovely timber window which opens onto the footpath and street. The tea house is a dog friendly business, with water bowls for four-legged visitors provided downstairs.

The Dayboro Tea House is open for breakfast (how does a bacon, egg and cheese toastie sound?) and offers light lunches (vegetarian and gluten free options available). Bookings are necessary for high teas and advisable on weekends.

In a nutshell - A warm and friendly meeting place that offers down-to-earth hospitality, homely cooking and a darn good cup of tea.
