Collectomania

Qld Museum

Collectomania is an intriguing peek inside the private collections of Queenslanders. Some collections were started by chance, others by intent. Some are made up of everyday items, others are more obscure. Each collection is distinct though.

The collections combined contain thousands of items, from iddy biddy buttons to enormous neon signs. The Queensland Museum has categorized the collections into several sections. Some of the more common collections include stamps, spoons, and postcards while some of the more wacky collections include chewed bubblegum, fingernails, and A Clock Work Orange dolls.

There's plenty of Queensland memorabilia on display from the Big Pineapple and Bundaberg Rum to RACQ badges and Savage Garden. Pop culture is covered too with street art stickers, Tonka toys, and life-sized celebrity cut-outs spruiking Pepsi.

Don't miss the chance to curate your own collection. Sort and select some object tiles to exhibit in a frame on the gallery wall and share your interest, passion, or obsession. This interactive activity is fun for all ages.
