Paniyiri Greek Festival
South Brisbane
Australia’s most iconic Greek Festival, Paniyiri, returns to Musgrave Park for a fabulous two-day celebration of all things Greek, on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Marking 47 years of Brisbane’s love for its Greek heritage, this year's theme is ‘Picnic at Paniyiri’ with attendees able to purchase a Paniyiri keep-sake picnic blanket at the event or BYO blanket to set up for a day of Greek food, drink, dancing, music, and much more.
Highlights of the two-day festival include the return of The Plateia traditional Greek village, cultural presentations, live music, Hellenic dancing displays, cooking demonstrations, and a variety of stalls selling everything from souvlaki and gyros to Greek wine and honey puffs. Plus this year The Greek Club have teamed with The Coffee Club to create a Paniyiri special cocktail - the Ouzo Espresso Martini!
There will also be plenty of activities for families and children to enjoy over the two days of all things Greek! Plus, festival goers will have a chance to win two return tickets to Greece via the purchase of raffle tickets.
Meanwhile, the cultural program theme will be the influence of three Greek women in the arts - Maria Callas, Melina Mercuri and Irene Papas featured at a historical display at the festival. Also at the festival, go on an exclusive tour and journey through the Greek Orthodox Church; a must see during Paniyiri.
“From honey puff eating, to dancing the Zorba, to shopping the market stalls reminiscent of the cobbled streets of Mykonos, we enjoy nothing more than bringing Greece to Brisbane’s doorstep for one fun-filled weekend every year,” says Chris Kazonis, Co-Chairman for Paniyiri.
Good to know - Paniyiri is a proud eco-friendly event which supports Brisbane City Council and Qld State Government sustainability initiatives. Across the park, compostable and biodegradable food packaging is encouraged by all community stalls.
