Snugglepot & Cuddlepie

Gardens Theatre

May Gibbs’ classic book about the Gumnut Babies, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, is brought to charming life through a new stage adaptation, at the QUT Gardens Theatre in July.

Having already enthralled audiences of all ages and critics at the Sydney Opera House, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie’s adventures will no doubt thrill Brisbane audiences as well. A review from Richard Cotter saying: “This adult had a thoroughly wonderful time and can attest that the toddlers and tots attending were totally taken by the theatrical magic woven by the dynamic performances and the imagination-enhancing work of the designers…”

The story sees the Gumnut Babies on a mission to see a human so they journey to the city and meet friends and foes, including Professor Kookaburra, Mrs. Fantail, Mr. Lizard, Mr. Frog, Mrs. Snake, Mr. Possum and Little Ragged Blossom.

But can our heroes – played by Nicholas Hiatt and Thomas Pidd – stay out of the way of the Big Bad Banksia Man?

Other performers include Lucy Goleby (Little Ragged Blossom) and Jake Lyall (Professor Kookaburra) in various roles.

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is presented by CDP Theatre Producers in association with the Monkey Baa Theatre Company, adapted by Eva Di Cesare, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry, and directed by Susanna Dowling. It’s also heartening to know that May Gibbs bequeathed royalties for Snugglepot and Cuddlepie jointly to the Northcott Society and Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
