Jak + Hill

Spring Hill

JAK + HILL HAS CLOSED IN 2020.

Jak + Hill is Spring Hill’s hidden oasis of cool – an industrial chic café, bar and restaurant carved out of a parking garage in leafy Astor Tce.

For lucky guests who stay at the attached uber funky hotel The Punthill, Jak + Hill is their day and night go-to for coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, a gourmet snack and after work or late night drink. In fact the Hill in Jak + Hill comes from The Punthill and the JAK is a combination of the owners'(james & Alisha) initials.

But you don’t have to be staying at the hotel or anywhere nearby to warrant a foray to Jak + Hill because it’s a foodie’s destination unto itself. On the menu are simple no-fuss meals that are brilliantly executed by chef and part-owner James who is a recent arrival from Melbourne.

Breakfast, which is served every day until 3 consists of light but scrummy dishes like warmed organic porridge, home made corn fritters, BLAT breakfast roll or eggs any which way with extras.

Lunch, which starts at 12 and carries on till close includes some of the best salads we’ve had anywhere: try the tuna nicoise or the roasted vegetable salad (with cous cous, toasted nuts, mint and fetta) otherwise there are baguettes, daily tarts and burgers.

Dinner, which is available from 6 is equally divine with dishes such as crispy fish and chips, spiced zucchini fritters and the highly recommended Meatball Bruschetta on sourdough with Napoli sauce, parmesan cheese and basil.

Dessert gets and honourable mention too, especially their signature Eton Mess - a dreamy whirl of meringue berry compote with cream and Persian ferry floss.

As well as a fine casual restaurant/café Jak + Hill is a great place to drop in for a well-made Allpress coffee, Teadrop tea and something delicious from the counter, with baked treats from Creative Crusts or gluten free sweet stuff from local gal Amazing Graze.

Otherwise stop by for a cool beer, cider, refreshing fruity mocktail or varietal wine by the glass or bottle. And still on the cards are some summertime fruit-infused  house cocktails.

Worth noting: Jak + Hill has a small growing catering arm and is on tap to cater functions at the Green Room conference centre at The Punthill.
