Growing Up Disabled in Australia

Brisbane Powerhouse

THIS SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Join Carly Findlay, author of Growing Up Disabled in Australia, in conversation for an empowering Writers+Ideas event on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Carly will be joined by the book's contributors Anna Whateley, Emma Di Bernardo and Todd Winther, along with host Elisha Matthews for a relaxed performance that is guaranteed to give the audience an insight into what it is like to grow up with a disability in Australia.

One in five Australians has a disability. And disability presents itself in many ways, yet disabled people are still underrepresented in the media and in literature.

Growing Up Disabled in Australia is the fifth book in the highly acclaimed bestselling Growing Up series. Edited by award-winning writer, speaker and appearance activist, Carly Findlay, the book includes interviews with prominent Australians such as Senator Jordon Steele-John and Paralympian Isis Holt, poetry and graphic art, as well as more than 40 original pieces by writers with a disability or chronic illness.

This performance offers a selection of accessibility seating options including wheelchair and mobility accessible seating, and tiered seating in an area that contains stairs, as well as an Auslan interpreter.
