Buzz Bistro

Newstead

BUZZ BISTRO HAS CLOSED AND BEEN REPLACED BY NOISETTO.

An air of 1950’s country chic permeates Buzz Bistro, Gasworks with waitresses in green and white check gingham blouses, a wall of wicker baskets, lime green spotted glassware and the rosy-cheeked mural image that also features on the menu cover.

The menu here is casual no-fuss café fare for morning and lunch (order at the counter) and Mod Oz bistro meets wood-fired pizzeria for dinner.

Buzz Bistro, Gasworks Newstead outdoor sitting area

Popular with the breakfast crowd is the Buzz Breakfast Plate – a combo of avo, sliced tomato, pancetta, mustard, grilled haloumi and buttered toast with optional fried egg or ricotta hotcakes with choc chips, candy bacon ice-cream and maple syrup and a di Bella coffee or Byron Bay tea. There’s also the option to build your own breakfast from an extensive list of sides including avocado salsa, Tasmanian smoked salmon, potato and silverside hash brown, rosti or black pudding.

Come lunch time choices range from the light – Inglewood chicken and leek ribbon sandwiches or beer braised pork roll, to the casual – Wagyu beef burger or house wood-fired pizza, to meals like spanned crab linguine.

Buzz Bistro, Gasworks pizza on board

Pizzas here are rustic and traditional and come highly recommended – try the olive or truffle (tapenade, crème fraiche, buffalo mozzarella, pancetta, mushrooms and parsley).

Then at dinner time table service kicks in, with the more substantial lunch dishes like market fish, pizza and roast chicken on the menu.

Buzz Bistro, Gasworks barramundi dish

At Buzz cocktail hour involves house cocktails like sage and pineapple margerita, watermelon and cherry Collins or tiramisu martini, otherwise there’s Peroni on tap and craft beers by the bottle, French champagne or a boutique selection of wines.

Nice to know: Buzz makes a good mum’s group meeting place in the mornings, with a couple of kids options on the breakfast menu, plenty of room for prams and the old gasometer adjacent whose lawn has become a de facto play zone.

The menu may have changed since our visit.
