All Aboard The Peace Train

Ipswich

All Aboard the Peace Train is the story of the man who was born Steven Demetre Georgiou, forged a career as Cat Stevens, and created a legacy as Yusuf Islam.

His 60 million album career has spanned nearly five decades, giving him the kind of credibility and lasting impact that others can only dream of. And in what’s the latest of a long line of achievements, the Ipswich Civic Centre will be presenting All Aboard the Peace Train: The Cat Stevens Story, a story-and-music production, starring Darrren Coggan and featuring the essence of what made the Brit as famous as he was.

All Aboard the Peace Train will take a look the roles talent and charisma had in creating one of the world’s biggest rock superstars, and how little Stevens seemed to intentionally seek it out. The seemingly effortless journey he took in his musical career will be on full display at the Ipswich Civic Centre as audiences will go on a rollercoaster ride through the 1970s with all of Stevens’ biggest hits.

But as suddenly as his career bloomed, it halted to a stop. Cat Stevens disappeared and was replaced by Yusuf Islam, a man who turned his back on his career without a second thought. Why did he do this? What would happen to his most popular songs, like “Father and Son”, “Where do the Children Play?” “Peace Train” and “Moonshadow”? And would audiences ever be able to experience him live again?

The answers to all these questions can be found at All Aboard the Peace Train, giving older fans the closure they’ve been looking for and younger ones a much-needed introduction to one of the finest, most influential artists who ever existed.

And in true Cat Stevens form, All Aboard the Peace Train is a night of showing what it means to long for something more than what’s in front of you.

Need to know: The Star Cafe opens at 4.30pm for drinks and refreshments.
