Museum of Brisbane
Updated: Oct 21, 2026
This October, Museum of Brisbane is celebrating ten years of its groundbreaking Artist in Residence program with a new exhibition and creative workshop series, In Residence: A Decade of Creative Practice.
Highlighting a decade of bold ideas, creative exchange and artistic innovation, the exhibition takes a retrospective look at the multidisciplinary artists and projects across different creative genres that have been nurtured through the program, along with artist-led workshops offering hands-on experiences for visitors.
The program features a roll call of Brisbane’s brightest creatives, such as Kim Ah Sam, Robert Brownhall, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, Trent Dalton, Gerwyn Davies, Taloi Havini, Pat Hoffie, Gordon Hookey and Hiromi Tango.
Multimodal projects produced as part of the program highlight art in all forms, from visual arts such as, sculpture, painting, drawing and textural works to short stories, musical compositions, site-listening and sound artworks, dance and performance.
Through artworks and behind-the-scenes insights, In Residence spotlights the ideas and creative outcomes that have emerged over the past decade, while recognising the vision and generosity of Tim Fairfax AC, whose support has nurtured this nationally recognised program.
The In Residence: Creative Series at Museum of Brisbane offers three hands-on workshops: Drawing Together with Man&Wah, exploring collaborative drawing and connection; Drawing the Dome with Robert Brownhall, teaching foundational sketching techniques; and Portraiture Drawing with Tori-Jay Mordey, exploring portraiture through fellow participants. Workshops cost $55, or $50 for members.
Museum of Brisbane’s Artist in Residence program has supported more than 100 artists and over 50 original projects, engaging millions of visitors and transforming the Museum into a place where creativity is shared and celebrated.
