Ipswich Cemetery

Ghost Tour

Updated: Jan 05, 2021

Ipswich Cemetery, one of the oldest burial grounds in Queensland, is located on the edge of the city, opposite a former mental asylum and golf course.

Over 150 years this morbid museum of Ipswich’s past has grown to six acres with 30,000 buried here. Hundreds of pioneers and their descendants, convicts, mental asylum patients, bushrangers and the famous Babies of Walloon have their final resting place at Ipswich Cemetery, their stories - both tragic and inspiring – inscribed in the headstones.

Legend has it that it is one of the most haunted places in the state and many who grew up in Ipswich will recall ‘spook-hunting’ at the cemetery on weekends, a skin-prickling experience that led to many ‘ghost’ sightings.

Ipswich Cemetery tours, led by eerie tour guide Jack Sim are the way to experience the historic graveyard at is spine-chilling best. The intimate lantern-lit 2-hour tours take in the most notorious haunted graves, with 13 ghost stories based on true tales researched from archives, libraries, former grave diggers and local residents.
