The Finders Keepers

Brisbane

The Finders Keepers is a mammoth festival-style market bringing together the latest independent Australian designers and makers over three huge days this winter at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

A bi-annual highlight of Brisbane's events calendar, The Finders Keepers is the go-to for cutting edge fashion and accessories, art, jewellery, individual design, homewares, gourmet food and drinks and local music acts, who come together under one roof at The Marquee in the historic Bowen Hills showgrounds.

More than 200 indie design and artisan stalls will feature the works of talented artists and designers, including innovative fashion (adults and kids), fine jewellery, hand-crafted ceramics, letterpress stationery, design objects and more, with a huge focus on ethical, sustainable and local.

Some stalls to look out for include that of debut designer Claire Ritchie, whose colourful clothes, prints and accessories not only look great, but all are personally made by Claire in her downtown Brisbane studio. Common Stitch is another Brisbane local who is taking conscious consumption to a new level with their pattern and clothing brand, which offers completed garments, sewing patterns, and complete sewing kits that are geared towards designers of all levels.

For sustainable and beautiful solutions for living and decorating, Brisbane locals Corner Block Studio and Kirralee & Co are well worth checking out. Corner Block Studio, which was literally 'born' on a corner block in Brisbane, crafts beautiful picture, card, book and record cover frames out of recycled Australian hardwoods and sustainable Queensland hoop pine. Kirralee & Co are four makers who work out of a solar-powered shed on a suburban farm, where they make everything from shelves, vases and mirrors to earrings.

The Finders Keepers

The second year of the Finders Keepers Indigenous Program will feature Life Apparel Co, who, from their Currumbin Waters base, aim to bring Indigenous culture to the forefront of mainstream fashion in Australia. And two out-of-towners worth mentioning are Farn, the Melbourne-designed, printed and made independent label that takes its inspiration from native Australiana; and Eggpicnic, who are making their Brisbane debut this year after wowing Sydney. Eggpicnic's design studio is devoted to wildlife conservation, producing fine art prints to end wildlife extinction through education and they are planning to include a series of new prints that capture the local birdlife native to Brisbane and Queensland in their range for sale at this market.

The Finders Keepers

Visitors will be able to experience live entertainment and artworks, as well as treat themselves to amazing local fare throughout the weekend including Italian style street food at Abbiocco Food Truck, Persian cuisine at Koobideh, and to top it off a Gelato à Go-Go after a Happy Soul Bowl. For a treat on the gogo, grab a bag of Chai Addict and a jar of Misty's Salted Caramel.

Meanwhile the fantastic line-up of entertainment includes Frankie Chinwags, a set of curated chats that address the value of handmade. Presented by frankie magazine, the panel discussions will take place live on stage on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30-11am.
