Winter School Holiday Activities
In Brisbane
Keep the kids busy this winter school holidays with Brisbane City Council’s fantastic free and low-cost school holiday activities for all ages happening across the city.
For less than a coffee and muffin at your local café, you can get the kids off the couch and their screens and out exploring Brisbane’s libraries, parks, the Planetarium and Mt Coot-tha.
Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium
Looking for something out of this world these school holidays? Then take the kids on a journey through space at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. There’s never been a better time to check it out – the historic structure has just reopened following the installation of a new six-projector digital system in the Cosmic Skydome.
Aliens, stars and the solar system are just a few of the exciting topics children and families can learn more about these school holidays at Brisbane City Council’s Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium.
Families can also enjoy the show narrated by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, ‘We Are Aliens!’ which takes viewers on an epic ride in the hunt for evidence of alien life.
Skate Parks and BMX Parks
Whatever their wheel of choice, kids can skateboard, blade, BMX or scooter to 20 BMX parks and 37 skate parks across the city and enjoy the great outdoors this winter school holiday.
Council skate parks have facilities on offer for people of all ages to feel welcome, learn new skills and get active and healthy. And, if the kids get bored of doing 180s and board slides, they can ride their scooter or BMX at many skate parks, too.
Indoor Pools
Just because it is winter doesn’t mean that kids can’t dive in and enjoy a swim, with 12 of Brisbane’s 22 pools heated and open for business.
With opening hours catering to dedicated lap swimmers and families alike, pools are a low-cost activity for the whole family.
