Spring School Holidays at Museum of Brisbane

Spring into creativity at Museum of Brisbane these school holidays, with a jam-packed lineup of free and low-cost activities running from 19 September to 5 October!

From crafty workshops and hands-on activities to family favourites, little makers can get creative, explore their imaginations and make something colourful to take home.

One of the highlights is MoB Kids: Pop Badges, where kids can design their own wearable creations using colourful patterns, shapes and images inspired by artist Sunday Jemmott. Running daily from 10am to 1pm, the drop-in activity costs just $2 for one badge or $5 for three, with no bookings required.

For something inspired by nature, MoB Kids: Fun with Ferns invites children to weave, twist and layer raffia and fern shapes inspired by artist Mahala Burns and her artwork Bungwal Fern. Best of all, this leafy creative activity is completely free and you can drop in daily from 10am to 1pm.

Older kids can get in on the fun with the MoB Teens: Sunday Fun-day Workshop, held on Wednesday 23 and 30 September. Led by Artist in Residence Sunday Jemmott, the colourful two-hour workshop will see teens aged 10–15 experiment with paint, doodles, scribbles, collage and texture to create their own artwork. Tickets are $30 plus booking fee, with bookings required.

There’s also plenty to discover beyond the school holiday activities. Families can step into Warrajamba, an immersive creative experience running until 22 November, where visitors can explore an ancestral story about a mermaid named Warrajamba and make their own mermaid or dugong dolly peg dolls using stamps featuring artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins’ designs.

And, of course, no visit to City Hall is complete without taking a trip up the iconic Clock Tower. The daily tours are free with booking and take visitors behind the scenes of Brisbane’s heritage-listed City Hall, including a ride in one of the city’s oldest working cage lifts and sweeping 360-degree views from the observation platform. Spaces are limited, so booking ahead is recommended.

Little ones can also pick up a free Little Artist’s Eye Spy activity sheet from reception, turning their Museum visit into a fun game of discovery as they search for hidden details throughout the building.
