Velveteen Rabbit

Velveteen Rabbit is a whimsical old world restaurant and bar unlike anything else in Brisbane, with a two-hatted chef in the kitchen and a storybook-themed food and drinks menu, located in a black cottage on Caxton St, Petrie Terrace.

Taking its name and inspiration from the beloved childhood classic book (there is a copy on display near the bar), Velveteen Rabbit incoporates a deco-style jazz bar in the main area, with an intimate fine dining room out back.

From the bar there's a range of unique craft beers on tap, including Velveteen Rabbit House Lager, Wandane Rogue Sour, Spezial Wletenburger Koster Festbier and Brick Lane Natural Draught; as well as a carefully curated boutique wine list and bespoke house cocktails. 

The food, including the bar snacks, is absolutely next level, with everything made from scratch onsite by the chef (who hails from Beechmount Estate), including the dips, sauces, and pickled vegetables, whihc are displayed in jars inside.

Must-try is the Rabbit food platter, the perfect accompaniment to any drink featuring a variety of organic carrots, scrumptious dips and giant rustic cracker.  

Depsite the playfulness of some of the menu titles, this is seriously good food. Must-try is the rabbit 'lamington', a melt-in-the-mouth chef's creation comprising finely shredded braised steak, covered in a spiced coating and served with creme fraiche.

Diners can choose to sit out back in the dining room or keep it informal on the outdoor covered seating, whee in the morning you can also enjoy coffee and pastries. 

Good to know - Velveteen Rabbit has another sceret up its sleeve, with a soon-to-be-opened speakeasy hidden downstairs.
