Originally known as Downes Family Shoe Repairs, in 1990 Downes Shoes was changed to a retail shoe outlet, and since then has been the citizen’s place to buy sturdy ever reliable Dr Martens of every shape and form, Dunlop sneakers and the outdoor worker’s best pal the Blundstone.
Since then it has been Brisbane and beyond's go-to for these iconic shoe brands, coupled with the good old-fashioned service on which it originally made it name.
For close to a century Downes Shoes occupied one of the Valley's oldest buildings but as of 2014, with the re-development of Bakery Lane has moved to Wickham St. And while the location may have changed, everything else good about Downes is the same.
