Tucked inside Newstead’s Haven precinct, DUCKFAT is Brisbane’s destination for bold French dining and cocktails and has quietly become one of Brisbane’s most distinctive French restaurants.

Over the past two years, the restaurant has refined its identity into something confidently its own — bold French cooking, generous hospitality, exceptional cocktails and a dining experience designed to bring people together. Rather than chasing tradition for tradition’s sake, DUCKFAT takes the foundations of French cuisine and gives them a fresh sense of personality, creating an experience that feels vibrant, memorable and unmistakably its own.

Whether it’s a long lunch, cocktails that become dinner, a date night or a celebration with friends, DUCKFAT is built around the pleasure of sharing great food around the table. Every meal begins with The Ritual — warm sourdough baguette served with cultured butter — before the menu moves through a collection of dishes that have become signatures of the restaurant.

The now-iconic Beet & Goat Cheese Cloud pairs crisp beet meringue with whipped chèvre and walnut crumble, while Coffin Bay oysters arrive with Champagne mignonette. Ruby-cured salmon gravlax, scallops finished with saffron beurre blanc, charcoal beef tartare, classic garlic butter snails and foie gras with green tomato jam continue the restaurant’s celebration of French flavours.

The mains are generous, flavour-driven and unmistakably French. Guests can choose The Hidden Fish with silky beurre blanc, mussels in aromatic spiced butter with crisp fries, or grilled onglet with rich shallot jus. For those looking to indulge, the MB8/9 Wagyu & Café de Paris is made for sharing, served with golden pommes frites and shallot jus.

One of DUCKFAT’s signature moments is the Duck Cherry Ember. Sous-vide duck breast is paired with cherry sauce, pistachio crumb, roast potato and spiced carrots before arriving beneath fragrant smoking thyme, adding just enough theatre to create a memorable moment without ever distracting from the cooking itself.

Dessert stays proudly French with Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée, the timeless Floating Island with soft meringue, crème anglaise, caramel and candied almonds, and DUCKFAT’s warm Chocolate Fondant, served with its perfectly molten centre.

While the kitchen sits at the heart of the restaurant, the bar has become just as much of a destination. DUCKFAT’s cocktail programme has earned a loyal following, pairing French inspiration with contemporary creativity alongside Champagne, carefully selected French wines, aperitifs and digestifs. Whether stopping in for drinks or settling in for the evening, the cocktails are every bit as much a reason to visit as the food.

For those wanting to experience the kitchen at its best, DUCKFAT’s shared feasts are available from just two guests. The Classic Feast offers a generous introduction to the restaurant’s favourites, while Atelier 115 has become the signature experience. Bringing together the kitchen’s most celebrated dishes in a carefully paced shared menu, Atelier 115 continues to receive outstanding feedback from guests and has quickly established itself as one of Brisbane’s most memorable ways to enjoy modern French dining.

Open seven days for lunch and dinner, DUCKFAT has carved out a place all of its own within Brisbane’s dining scene. Bold without being overcomplicated, generous without being excessive, and always loaded with flavour, it’s a restaurant that proves French dining can be both timeless and exciting.
