Uncle Wang

Hamilton

Uncle Wang is a chic and inviting contemporary Chinese restaurant nestled within Hamilton's Portside Wharf, and a sibling for Uncle Wang at The Barracks.

Uncle Wang Portside Wharf

Look for the pink neon light on the same side of the precinct as Dendy Cinemas and inside you'll find one of the best Chinese restaurants in Brisbane, elegantly and colourfully kitted out with banquettes, booths and lanterns, with a bar to one side.

The food at Uncle Wang is next level, far removed from the suburban Chinese restaurants of the 20th century, starting with dishes like fresh shucked oysters, Hokkaido scallop marinated in spiced soy, green sesame oil & garlic crumb; or Liangban cucumber (crunchy, garlicky cucumber with Xin li mei radish with red vinegar dressing).

Must-try are the handmade dumplings, including pork potsticker; pork and prawn or chicken shimai ( open style dumplings with chicken and waterchestnut).while equally delicious are other entrees such as popcorn chicken (deep-fried with chilli plum mayo); spring onion pancake; and Wang prawn toast (fresh prawn-filled baby sandwiches).

Main dishes include Sichuan spicy grilled chicken; house specialty Peking Duck (crispy skin half duck served with pancake wrap, hoisin sauce, pickled ginger, leek and cucumber); and the melt-in-the-mouth Chasiu pork ribs (sticky tender pork ribs with Chasiu sauce and chili powder).

Seafood mains include the likes of steamed barramundi fillet in light housemade soy sauce, topped with ginger, chilli, and spring onion; and prawns (chilli ginger or salt & pepper) while vegetarian dishes include smoky Hongyou eggplant; mushrom mapo tofu; and Wang's special kung pao potatoes.

Otherwise, there are rice and noodle dishes such as smoked duck or mushroom black dan dan noodle; as well as Buddhe or Wang's fried rice (another must-try). Uncle Wang also has a choice of banquets (minimum two people), including a vegan banquet. There are also great value lunch specials, and plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options.

Uncle Wang Portside Wharf

From the drinks menu, there's a Chinese lager and a small selection of craft beers, a carefully curated wine list of Australian and international wines to complement the menu, and a smattering of cocktails including Aperol or lychee spritz, margarita, mojito and espresso or lychee martini.

Uncle Wang Portside Wharf

Good to know - There's a handful of tables outside where well-behaved pooches on leash are welcome to join their owners.

Need to know - Undercover secure parking is available onsite at Portside Wharf with up to two hours free.
