Government House Open Day
Brisbane’s historic Government House in Paddington is holding a very special Open Day on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
This year marks 165 years since Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent, allowing Queensland to separate from New South Wales and claim independence as a colony, on 6 June, 1859. Queensland Day is an important opportunity to celebrate our state’s culture and heritage, and to reflect on what makes us proud to be Queenslanders
The gates to Government House will be open from 11am until 3pm for visitors to enjoy music, displays and activities organised by several of the Governor’s many patronage organisations. Soak in the atmosphere while you pair a treat from the King of Cakes with a liquid refreshment from the Tim Adams Specialty Coffee van.
Government House, also known as Fernberg, is Queensland's premier heritage home, the working residence of the Queensland Governor, and inextricably linked to the history and people of Queensland.
Visitors will be welcomed inside the historic house, where knowledgeable volunteer guides will be on hand to talk about its history as well as the constitutional, ceremonial and community duties of the Governor. Guided garden tours will also be offered by the horticulture team.
Need to know - This is a free event, with no registration required. While there is no parking onsite, street parking will be available on Fernberg Road and the streets surrounding the Estate. No pets (assistance dogs excepted) or alcohol permitted.
