Tori & Hiyoko

Mt Gravatt

TORI & HIYOKO HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

Tori & Hiyoko is a hidden gem of a Japanese eatery found in the backstreets of Mt Gravatt on Gaynesford Street.

Small in size but big in taste, Tori & Hiyoko dishes up homestyle Japanese fare from a tiny shopfront with a few tables inside and a few more on the footpath. Takeaway is also available.

Start with miso soup, harumaki (spring rolls), pan fried gyoza (pork, prawn or vege) or grilled miso eggplant with house made wasabi dip.

Main dishes range from Japanese style omelettes with Japanese mayo and special sauce, served with glaze, fried rice and green salad to chicken karaage, chicken curry (you choose the spice level) and katsu don (rice topped with crumbed chicken breast, egg, onion and condiments).

Less traditional Japanese fare includes a grilled teriyaki chicken burger and highly recommended chicken platter with honey soy wings, sweet and spicy wings, grilled chicken with herbed mayo, karaage with Japanese mayo and chicken tenders with honey mustard.

Drink wise, customers can order freshly brewed T2 teas by the pot or iced in a jar or jug. There’s Japanese Sencha (a traditional tea), Gorgeous Geisha (green tea with strawberries) and Packs a Peach (peach, papaya, apple and roasted chicory) to name just a few of the flavours.

Need to know - Tori & Hiyoko is pet friendly (dogs can sit with owners on the footpath) and child friendly with a cute Hiyoko bento available for kids; including 2 onigiries (hand formed rice balls), 2 spring rolls, 2 karaage, 2 takoyaki, tuna salad, fresh fruit and served with a cup of orange juice.

*Opening hours correct at time of writing in April 2016. Always check before visiting.
