NIDA Open Summer Classes

Metro Arts

We’ve all heard of the acting success stories that have come out of Sydney’s NIDA – the National Institute of Dramatic Art – and now kids in and around Brisbane have an opportunity locally to experience some of that NIDA magic with NIDA Open Summer Classes, at Metro Arts in January.

NIDA is inviting kids to create their own story in a series of performing arts short courses and workshops for various ages and skill levels. Says Caroline Spence, Head of NIDA Open, “Summer is our busiest time of year when we offer our largest range of courses to engage the senses and encourage creativity.”

It will certainly be a wonderful outlet for kids climbing the walls by January… and no doubt a welcome break from entertaining them for some parents! At the end of each workshop, participants will perform for family and friends.

Here’s an example of the courses available:

NIDA Drama School for Grades 3 – 6, from 4 – 8 January.  This course allows young people to explore their imagination and learn performance skills such as improvisation, voice, movement, stage craft and more.

Summer School: Screen Acting for Grades 7 – 10, from 4 – 8 January. This course offers young people the unique chance to collaborate with an expert NIDA tutor and fellow participants to create their own summer story adventure on screen while learning fun acting and storytelling techniques.

Acting Boot Camp for Grades 3–6, 7–10 and 11–12, from 16 – 17 January. This fast-paced and intensive course works on building skills in essential acting techniques including improvisation, character and scene work.
