Reserved Seating Only
Ipswich Civic Centre
The AFL has been in the news a lot lately and there’s no doubt many Aussies love their footy, so there’s sure to be an appreciative audience for Reserved Seating Only – a comedy about life, love… and the AFL. It’s a one-performance only show on Tuesday, 1 September, at the Ipswich Civic Centre.
Presented by Boxing Day Productions, the play is an adaptation by David Ross Paterson of a Peter B. Sonenstein play. Paterson (Frost/Nixon, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Chopper) and his wife, Cecelia Specht (Criminal Minds, Castle, Neighbours) star respectively as a loud, burly football fan and a recently divorced ‘football widow’. The woman, who’s gone through a messy divorce, has claimed her ex-husband’s footy tickets and comes into comical conflict with the footy fan over four eventful quarters as he passionately engages with the game while she remains oblivious to the game’s charms. But will this seemingly mismatched couple remain at odds with each other?
Reserved Seating Only promises to provoke some chuckles, discussion and even some debate about the battle of the sexes and our national obsession with sport. It’s received some great recommendations, including from Mary Lou Jelbart on ABC Radio who said, “As a football play this is a very good one. There were a number last year and I think this is better than any of them… This is not about football, it’s about relationships.” 3LO Arts Sunday adds, “A brilliant adaptation… Very funny and also quite moving.”
The Ipswich Civic Centre is offering a special $20 discount if you book seats for both Reserved Seating Only and upcoming October show, All My Love, in one booking by Tuesday, 1 September 2015. There is also a free program and Meet and Greet with cast after show included.
