The Sugar Deli
Scarborough
THE SUGAR DELI HAS CLOSED PERMANENTLY IN 2016 AND IS TO BE REPLACED BY THE GALLEY.
The Sugar Deli is an ambient art deco cafe by day, wine bar by night (From Thu-Sat) located in Scarborough's main tree-lined street overlooking the sea.
Leadlights, gilt mirrors, dark wood cabinets and a long marble bar set the scene for wining and ining in the main long narrow room, with a Euro style courtyard with fireplace out back and a couple of gaily painted wooden tables on the pavement out front.
Décor aside, it's the food that is the big drawcard here with a seasonal menu that churns out treats such as orange and buffalo mozzarella salad, Sugar Deli pie – chunky Angus steak with truffled mash and peas, hand cut kipfler potatoes, Sicilian torte and Snickers cheesecake. Breakfast options include nutella pancakes, frittatas and eggs benedict among the choices along with a special house blend of Neli coffee from the local roaster.
With its own in-house deli though the signature dish would have to be the deli platter, with few things to match a summer's day or evening sitting out front overlooking Scarborough bay with a glass of wine and their selection of fresh cut deli meats, dips and wild breads, cheese, olives and roasted veges.
Being a rather glam bar as well punters can drop by for a boutique beer, cocktail or wine.
And no need to leave the dog at home – patrons occupying the street tables can tie their 4 legged friends up to the adjacent posts and obliging staff will provide a bowl of water on request.
