THIS EVENT IS NOW IN THE PAST. FOR MORE GREAT THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN AND AROUND BRISBANE, PLEASE HEAD TO OUR WHAT'S ON PAGE HERE

This Remembrance Day, State Library of Queensland invites you to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of Queensland war hero's past and present, and discover ways to commemorate at home and in person at Anzac Square Memorial Galleries

Located beneath the Shrine of Remembrance in Brisbane CBD, the Memorial Galleries will be open from 10am to 4pm for patrons wishing to explore the free exhibition (curated by State Library) or place a poppy in honour of Queensland-associated battalions, regiments and other units.

From November 8 to 12, 2021, visitors can also delve deeper into Queensland’s war history on a free, 45-minute guided tour of the Memorial Galleries, exploring the history, traditions, and people who exemplify the Anzac Spirit and underpin the importance of Remembrance Day. Click here to register for a free tour.

Commemorating from home? Wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing, you can stop and reflect this Remembrance Day with help from your voice assistant. It’s simple. Just ask Amazon Alexa or your Google Assistant to "Ask Anzac Stories" and follow the prompts for ways to commemorate.

Once activated, Marto and Margaux from Triple M’s The Big Breakfast radio show will guide you through a selection of moving stories from State Library’s military collection, including that of World War II Flight Lieutenant Charles ‘Digger’ Fry (pictured below), who proposed to his sweetheart Beryl Smith by letter during his time as a prisoner of war.

You can also listen to The Last Post and request a poppy be placed on your behalf inside Anzac Square Memorial Galleries through this award-winning program.

While you’re online, you can help State Library document the story of Queensland by sharing your heartfelt memories with Explorer. You can tag and comment on existing State Library collection items related to Queensland’s war history… or add your own story! State Library would love to learn more about who you’ll stop to remember this Remembrance Day.

Discover more ways to commemorate this Remembrance Day here and don't forget to share your Remembrance Day story by using the hashtags #AnzacSquare and #RemembranceDay2021 on social media.
