International Lecture: Shaping Singapore

Brisbane Open House

Brisbane Open House is celebrating 10 years of unlocking the architectural wonders of the City, hosting the annual Open House Worldwide Lecture.

This signature event will showcase Brisbane as part of a unique and growing international network and will explore the architectural trends, long term planning and collaboration of projects in South East Asia and their application to Brisbane.

Principal and Director of Safdie Architects Singapore, Charu Kokate will deliver the inaugural lecture on Thursday 3 October and share her experience creating incredible icons, including Marina Bay Sands and Jewel Changi Airport.

“Working within strict building regulations often poses considerable challenges for the architectural industry, however that is where the most groundbreaking work can be accomplished.

“When it comes to designing work in Singapore, our focus as a firm is on positively impacting the public realm by creating inspiring spaces to be enjoyed by both Singaporeans and tourists alike.

“Brisbane Open House is a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to take the time to truly connect and appreciate the weight architecture has on building a city’s personality, and I am thrilled to share my experiences within the industry."

BOH Lecture

BOH Chair, Malcolm Middleton said he is thrilled to be hosting the annual Open House Worldwide Lecture.

“Safdie Architects has created some of Singapore’s most inspiring and iconic architectural wonders, imbuing every project with a spirit of idealism and innovation,” Mr Middleton said.

“This lecture presents an incredible opportunity for seasoned and aspiring architects, landscapers and developers to understand how to not let strict planning regulations from stifle creativity and innovation.

“Our goal with this event is to continue to inspire the BOH community to explore new thinking, global trends and encourage the sharing of ideas and insights, and debate with a wider audience. “

Following more than 70,000 visits last year, BOH 2019 is opening 119 of the city’s most beloved and admired buildings, which are often inaccessible to the public.

Combined with new experiences, tours and activities, the tenth year of the annual BOH festival is set to feature its biggest and most exciting program yet.
